Mr Bateman is an experienced surgical educator and trainer. He is willing and able to deliver face-to-face and virtual training within the fields of spine care and surgery, anatomy, surgical education and training and medical leadership.

National Registry Data
Mr Bateman collects Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and monitors patient outcomes using the British Spine Registry. If you are having surgery then we will seek your consent to be included.

Before your appointment
Previous scans
If you have had a scan or imaging of your spine within the last year then please contact Becky (Derby) or Sarah (Lincoln) using our contact form prior to your appointment to ensure that your images are available for review. She will need to know your name and date of birth, where the scan was performed in order to request transfer of the images. If you have a report please bring it with you to your appointment as well.
Referral letters
If you have a referral letter from your medical practitioner or therapist then please bring a copy with you to your appointment if possible.
What to expect
Mr Bateman will ask you questions about your symptoms and how they affect you. He may also ask you further questions about your lifestyle and general health. It is often helpful to bring list of any regular medicines that you take and any allergies that you may have. If relevant and helpful he may offer to examine you.
If you have prior imaging then this can be reviewed and a management plan discussed. If you have not yet had the necessary imaging then Mr Bateman can refer you for these tests and see you on a different occasion to discuss the possible management options. Most tests are available within 1-2 weeks.
If you decide to go ahead with an offered intervention
If Mr Bateman feels you would benefit from an intervention and you decide to proceed then you will be placed on a waiting list. This is normally only 2-4 weeks depending on demand. You should be contacted within a few days of your appointment and offered a date for the procedure.
Please note - It is not possible to do interventions on the day of your first consultation.
