Honorary Professor Tony Bateman is a Consultant Spine Surgeon based in the East Midlands. At Integrity Spine Care, he assesses people with back pain, neck pain, sciatica and other spinal nerve or spinal cord conditions.
His approach
A consultation begins with listening: what symptoms you have, how they affect your life and what you hope to achieve. Professor Bateman then considers the clinical findings and any relevant scans before explaining the likely diagnosis and options in straightforward language.
Many patients do not need surgery. When an intervention may help, the choice should reflect its likely benefit, risks, alternatives and your preferences.
Clinical work and outcomes
Professor Bateman provides spine consultations and procedures through his clinical practice. He records patient-reported outcomes and uses the British Spine Registry for surgical outcomes, with patient consent where required.
Professor Bateman also contributes to surgical education and research.
