Good spinal care should be judged by what happens to patients, as well as by the procedure performed.
Patient-reported outcomes
Professor Bateman collects patient-reported outcome measures and monitors surgical outcomes through the British Spine Registry. If you are having an operation, the team will explain what information is collected and seek any consent needed for your details to be included.
These measures help assess symptoms and function before and after treatment. An individual result can still differ from the average: diagnosis, general health, the length of time a nerve has been affected and other factors all matter.
Patient experience
Professor Bateman tries hard to ensure an inclusive, empathic and positive experience for all his patients and this is reflected in the positive reviews he receives from those who chose to consult him for spine care.
During consultation, you can ask about the expected benefit of a proposed treatment, the chance that symptoms may remain and the alternatives available to you.
